Committed to Local Issues

With balanced experience in business, government, and the arts, Bill was elected as Trustee in 2021 and has taken an active role in Village government while learning on the job.

Bill Braine is a marketing professional and writer with decades of experience, most recently at Mastercard and previously at Sotheby’s auction house. He has worked for the federal, state and local government—as a temporary postal worker, a SUNY communications professional, and now Trustee, respectively. In addition, Mr. Braine was a columnist for the Times Herald-Record and a freelance writer whose work appeared in Runner’s World and other outlets.

Passionate about Cornwall-on-Hudson’s environmental legacy, Bill is a long-time volunteer with Riverkeeper and the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. He is a member of the Greater Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, and he previously served on the board of the Hudson Highlands Nature Center and as Chair of the Town of Cornwall Economic Development Advisory Committee.

He and his wife Claudia Depkin, director of the Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library, moved to the Village in 2006; their two children, both attending SUNY universities, are graduates of Cornwall schools.
